Camp Chase vol. 53 1863-1865

I've had to update this since Google changed the formatting of my old site. The above link takes you to Family Search, where you will have to subscribe (free) to access the original Camp Chase books. This new format is awkward for lists and for now this is the best I can do. At the top of the page you will see how the listings read from top to last. The number following the name is the image number of the original book if you need to access the original.

Two citizens, not of West Virginia, were arrested on Aug. 25, 1863, as blockade runners at Parkersburg on the ship "Kate Dale". Thomas Davis, a native of Dublin, Ireland, and James Driscoll, of Toronto, Canada. They were released on Nov. 13 after taking the oath. The record is on image # 64.

Another interesting reference is found on image #140, which lists a prisoner from Wayne County, Franklin Johnson, who is credited to an organization called "Piles' Guerrillas". There is no record of this group in the official Confederate service records for Virginia. An internet search turned up another member of this group from Wayne County, Theodore Fannin, who was also imprisoned in Camp Chase and died there on Jan. 13, 1865.
