Valencia

Another Mystery Archtop

When I got this I thought it was made by Harmony as Valencia was a brand name they used in the 1930's. However this has a zero fret and Harmony never used a zero frets on their guitars so scratch that as a maker.

Further research against the brand name "Valencia", (which is hard because there are a LOT of Spanish flat tops branded Valencia!) and I found a Valencia from Gallotone. The look of the neck was very similar, with the same headstock shape, the same Valencia logo the same large fret marker dots, but again no zero fret? The body was a bit different too, the ƒ holes were similar but the Gallotone had a white painted pin stripe about 2cm in around the body, (which to be honest made the whole thing look a lot cheaper than the proper binding around mine), and a much plainer tailpiece. I know Gallotone did make their own Guitars but I also know they did rebrand stuff from other makers like Egmond, (who do use zero frets), too?

Seems obvious, but I wasn't sure if the pickup was after market so it wasn't my first "port of call" but Hofner? No problem with the zero fret; Hofner used that tailpiece; Hofner DID fit that kind of pickup themselves; I even saw some Hofner Congress's with similar side bindings, but those ƒ holes...

I've never seen a Hofner with anything close to that design? The headstock shape and the fret markers too...
