Now this is what you call a "Dreadnought". It's big, very BIG, big body wide neck and big boomy sound!
I got this on a whim in an auction I attended. I found it tucked away under a table in the middle of the auction and what initially drew me to it was the case it was in, (what is it about me and cases?) It was a very good looking acoustic hard case, and whilst it didn't look new it did look like it was well looked after and in good condition, with no stickers or anything on it. I could see there was a Guitar in it but as it was the middle of the auction and close to the auctioneers lectern I couldn't really get it out and have a good look but I though "with a case that nice the Guitar inside must be fairly good", so I waited and when it came up I put the second bid in on it. No one came back so I won it at a very reasonable price, more than I would pay for just a case, but not a lot more.
When I got it and actually got to look at it properly, though the case was as nice as I thought, the guitar itself had "issues"! The biggest of which was a large crack in the neck that meant the headstock was half off!! Oh well it is a nice case...
When I told this to the Ukulele Doctor at BMM he said to let him look at it, and in his care it went from being a spare set of bridge pins to a nice playable dreadnought. Yes there were still issues, one of the tuners was a poor replacement, the nut up to the first string had come away and the main body had a lot of lacquer cracking but all them were only cosmetic issues and when I researched it a bit I found that Jimmy Page had used one for recording one of the Led Zeppelin albums in 1969 so it's not that bad a guitar.
Well it's been at Ukulele Corner for quite a while now and quite a few other 6 string acoustic guitars have sought sanctuary since I got it. This has pushed it further down the pecking order as a player and especially as a cosmetic piece to leave out on the stand, (the case is still my best one though), vanity I know but as space is becoming a premium, it's a big guitar and when I received an offer for it I had to say goodbye and good luck around someone else's campfire.
