Checking the water supply valve

     Dual water valve

One way to see if your water valve is bad is to do this simple test: Make yourself a test cord out of an discarded 120v power cord such as an old lamp cord. Put some aligator clips on the cord for simple tests. Unplug the quick connect to the water valve and hook the clips to the valve. Apply wall current to the valve for a sec and see if any water squirts out. Be careful not to shock yourself.

This can be done on all types of water valves such as: washers, dishwashers, and ice machines. If the water is not hooked up to the valve just energize it and try to blow through it. If you can't, then the valve is bad. You could check the coils for continuity readings but if the valves themselves are clogged with calcium, rust, and lime deposits then it won't matter if the coil is good or not.

A  word about the dual water valve: The larger 5/16th side goes to the water fountain in the door on a side by side. The smaller size line is for the ice maker.
