KLIXONS: How to tell the diff, limit or control?

This looks like a control thermostat but it is a 250f limit

Look closely on the stamped metal portion for temps.

The control thermostats for cotton is 162f max so this 250 dude won't do

for drying but that is just what happens when the control thermostat goes all wank.

You would know it cause all them clothes come out all wrinkled and hot.

Here is a 4 wire control thermostat. See the 2 smaller terminals on top? They attach to a tiny heater.

You gotta have a real sensitive meter to read continuity on these small legs.

The control basically is set for 160f for cotton. For permapress or delicates this same control is used

but those 2 smaller wires power up the heater and make it shut down quicker. Pretty cool yes?

This is also a control thermostat but it has a fixed temp setting. This one is a 140f

control tstat. usually you see 2 or 3 of these guys side by side on the blower. One would be

for cotton, one for permapress, one for delicate.

This one is totally easy to recognize. It is NOT a

control thermostat. It has the terminals offset to keep from grounding against the

cabinet. It sits atop the element on a maytag dryer(late model).

This one has a reset button. Probably has a 250f rating or higher (up to 350f)

If these babys pop out look for air restrictions.

FYI: If you know what you are looking at or for then you don't have to guess which

is a control thermostat and what is a limit. Note: the limits mount on heater housings..

Most of these CONTROL Klixons never give a probo with the exception of the 4 wire.

The little heater burns out and all the clothes get the cotton treatment.

The women do not tend to appreciate that. LOL
