Welcome to OVs 2012 !!

Post date: 16-Jan-2012 20:44:50

From our new Club Secretary - Rob Howes.

A very happy new year to you all and welcome to the 2012 OVGS .

Let me start by thanking Steve Sear for a great year as captain, I know the whole society hopes he finally finds someone to take that trolley off him! On behalf of the members I would like to welcome our new captain Mr Stephen Roberts to the position and his vice captain Mr Terry Wiggins.

After 142 years Mike has finally handed over the reins of Secretary to me and although he was presented with a wonderful carriage clock at the porters Park Xmas Classic, I would like to say what a pleasure it has been having such a great guy running the society for us so wonderfully and thank you once more Mike from everyone in the society. We hope you enjoy rolling up now without the hassle of the organisation, well deserved.

Changes

2011 has been a difficult but successful year for the OVGS and we want to grow and continue with the fun in 2012 and it has been agreed to make a few changes to our format to make it accessible to all, easy to join in and fun! With this in mind we are trying some new courses, some new formats and offering different packages to get everyone to come along to all the days or even a few.

New Courses

We are venturing to Brocket Hall, Luton Hoo and Verulam Golf Clubs to play this year as well a few favourites.

New Formats

We are playing an 18 holes society night starting at 5.00pm to enable people to not take a day off work.

There is an 18 holes society event starting in the afternoon to enable some to take half a day off.

You will be able to lay in because we are changing the start times on some 27 holes golf days to 9.30am or 10.00am and playing 9 holes in the morning to warm up, have a light lunch before the main 18 holes competition and dinner in the evening.

Some of the events you golf will be able to stay in golf gear for the social and some will be more formal like our Captain’s day.

The captain’s day will be 36 holes. There is an 18 holes option should any of you not wish to play a full 36.

Prices

We have a golf day for £23.50 to the most expensive at £85. Membership has once more remained the same at £20 this year for you.
