2012 AGM

Post date: 15-Jan-2013 11:24:47

Notes from AGM held at the Silver Cup in Harpenden at 7:30 on 14/1/2013.

Attendees: Steve Sear, Ray Field, Stephen Roberts, Nick Duggan, Mike Wadham, Richard Stephens, Terry Wiggins, Vernon Clough, Peter Bubbear, Rob Howes, Dave Boynton.

Outgoing Captain Stephen Roberts summarised the past year, some great golf days at Brocket, Verulam, Mid Herts and Luton Hoo, but poor attendance at Redbourn (moved to Mid Herts) and a cancellation of the Xmas Classic at Porters Park due to the Weather. Brocket Hall was the outstanding highlight, with a great venue, fantastic service and a very challenging course.

Outgoing Treasurer Rob Howes summarised finances. Circa £1,200 in the bank, and deposits of £100 each at Porters and Redbourn carried into 2013. We need to amend the signatories on the account, which Ray and Steve will organise.

Paid membership will be around 12 people this year, with 7 paying immediately on the night. Membership fee remains at £20. Expanding our membership is still a problem, though this seems to be the case across Golf in general.

We discussed the number of golf days for the 2013 calendar, and Pete Bubbear's suggestion of 4 events met with widespread approval. We will work out the allocation of trophies across these events, and may hold two competitions on the same day if appropriate.

Terry Wiggins will be our Captain for 2013, ably assisted by Richard Stephens as Vice-Captain. Terry has provisionally proposed venues for 2013 meetings as Brockett Hall, Welwyn Garden City, Redbourn and Porters Park.

We also discussed the pros and cons of various formats, including 18, 27 or 36 holes, and the possibility of matches against other societies, without reaching concensus.

Steve Sear will take over as Secretary and Treasurer. Steve will book Golf Days, for 12 golfers provisionally. We discussed choosing a particular day of the week (Friday), but this does not suit many, so it's likely we will book different days for each meeting.

The meeting closed at 9:15 according to Ray's timepiece.
