Spezza Tames The Bedfordshire

The course at the Bedfordshire was in great nick, but thanks to a lively wind it was playing as tough as the lunchtime Sticky Toffee Pudding. Mick Kelly had parked his campervan in the car park, prompting the UN to come over after visiting the travellers site in Essex, but we were soon underway for the morning 18 hole Stableford.

Much of the pre-match talk concerned Steve Roberts mysterious wrist injury, sustained the night before, but we swiftly concluded that there must be an innocent explaination (yeah, right). We set off armed with out-of-date Polos (courtesy of Robbie) and a ball marker which is bigger than a ball (courtesy of Andy).

Spezza emerged triumphant with 38 points, having found his swing again after foolishly taking a few lessons. Vernon came in second with 34 points, surviving a scare on the 9th when he nearly lost his lucky tee (but spotted it just within the 5 minute limit). Previous winner Rob Howes had a spirited 26 points off his new handicap of 4, and all this despite leaving half his clubs in the pro shop after having them regripped. Other notable incidents saw Terry manage an eagle 2, Andy Kass nearly brain Steve Sear with a 3 wood off the 1st tee, and Brian almost hitting Rob with a drive

The afternoon Texas Scramble was won by Terry, Brian & Vernon, and Steve Sear actually managed to get all the results right, and in the right order, for once!.
