History

In June 1969, Ray Field proposed that an OVGS Golf Society was formed. The society was inaugurated at a Cocktail Party on 23/11/1969. Ray became our first Secretary, Peter Bubbear became Treasurer, and Keith Tomlin was the first Captain. 40+ years on, Ray and Peter are still competing and winning Silverware!

The first Club Golf Day was on 7/5/1970 at Mid Herts Golf Club. A. Cunnington was the winner. The first knock-out Trophy was won by Peter Bubbear

The founder members of the OVGS were...

Ray Field, Peter Bubbear, Maurice Dorrington, Keith Tomlin, Pat North, Ian Graham, Dickie Bird, Norman Edwards, Ken Hacker, John Street, Dave Marwood, Jack Griffiths, J Newman, Barry Mutrie, J Hillard and N Green.

Ken Hacker was Chairman from Feb 1972 until Feb 1996

Another notable committee member is Mike Wadham, who has been Secretary of the club in two stints up to 2011, for a total of 28 years!
