Stephens Reigns In The Rain

Post date: 01-May-2012 14:17:04

Thank you to everyone who attended Verulam yesterday to support and enjoy the first day of Stephen Roberts holding the coveted position of Captain of the Old Verulamium Golf Society. It was looking like we were going to get soaked but it was amazingly good weather really and it was matched by very good company, play and a great course.

Handicaps

We start with some adjustments to start the year on handicaps. It was agreed that members can select to revert to their club haIf handicap at the beginning of this year. (phew)

Results

  1. Richard Stephens was the winner of the Spring Tankard with 35 points (cut 3 to 20- agreed at dinner)

  2. Rob Howes was 2nd with 32 points on count back (no cut)

  3. Stephen Roberts was 3rd with 32 points (no cut)

Congratulations to Richard and well played

Cash prizes for nearest pin

We introduced two £30 prizes for nearest the pin on 8 in the morning and 17 in the afternoon.

In the morning no one hit the green 180 yard away in a force 6 gale so we had a rollover to the afternoon

There were two shots which we could not split so Ray Austin & Dave Dayton won £30 each, congratulations to them both

Longest Drive

Captain Stephen Roberts knocked it into a different county (still on the fairway!)

In the Spring Tankard, Vernon played well with a great front 9,Dave Dayton had a good back 9, Dave Boynton played consistently with his new irons, Ray Field had a good front 9, Steve Sear looked great in pink, Brian nelson played Bluebell corner and Ver side with some merit, Mike Wadham was in shock not having to organise anything so had a smile on his face all day and Angel Matamala was in attendance with a wonderful start and greatly helped eating the cheese

Morning results

The morning Team Competition was won by Steve Roberts, Ray Field & Richard Stephens

High stableford score for 11 holes was Rob Howes with 24 points

Toast

We had a toast to Mick Kelly and tales were told.

Prizes

Thanks to Stephen for arranging the prizes, a very high standard, how will he keep it up?! There were also OV golf tees for all in attendance so thanks to Steve and next month he promises to do a joke.........
