Ray and Vernon take the spoils at WGC

The day started with a 9 hole Stableford comp for the Autumn Goblet, contested over the first nine holes. Some fine golf from Ray Austin saw him score 21 points and take the first silverware of the day. Brian Nelson took the 'Nearest The Pin' on the Par 3 Second Hole, but no-one hit the green on the money hole, so £50 rolled over to the afternoon

A quick break for Ham, Egg & Chips in the bar, and we were back out for the Derby Rose Bowl over 18 holes. Rob Howes took nearest the pin, and Terry was the rather predictable winner of the longest drive on the 17th. There was £100 riding on nearest the pin on the 18th, and right up to the last tee shot of the day no-one had hit the green. Up stepped Vernon with a fine tee shot in the rain to take the spoils (of which he has rather kindly donated £50 for us to use at the Christmas Classic).

After using up all of the paper towels in the absence of proper towels in the WGC Changing Rooms, we retired to the bar for refreshments and prize giving.

The winner of the Rose Bowl was Vernon, taking it home for the second year in succession. Mrs Vernon will be very chuffed to have another year polishing the silverware and keeping it in fine shape (take a note, Mr Roberts!). Pete Bubbear and Steve Sear were victorious in the Mystery Pairs, and then we all had some rather fine Pate and Meat Pie, and went home...
