Dileep Kumar R., Post-Doctoral Fellow at the State Inter University Centre for Excellence in Bioinformatics, hails from Chennithala – a beautiful village on the banks of the Achankovil River, in the southern part of Alappuzha district of Kerala. Dileep did his PhD in Zoology at Kariavattom campus under the guidance of Dr. Oommen V. Oommen in “Safety evaluations and application potentials of Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni in Swiss albino mice”. His post-doctoral work is on biosensor development for the identification of snake envenomation. He holds M.Sc in Life Sciences (Molecular Biology and Biochemistry) from School of Life Sciences, Pondicherry Central University and BSc. in Biotechnology from Govt. College Kariavattom. He worked as a Guest lecturer in the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. College Kariavattom and also in Department of Electronics of Marian Engineering College and Muslim Engineering College, Thiruvananthapuram. He loves to observe nature and also enjoys sharing the knowledge of science to everyone. His love for snakes and venom research lead him to form a reptilian study group in Trivandrum. In its short span of inception, the group played a vital role in rescuing and relocating more than 1000 snakes in to the wild. The most interesting fact is that it includes 8 King cobras, the king of all snakes. The group include the most popular snake man Sri. Suresh alias Pampu Vaava and other snake lovers. Realizing the importance of venom research in the tropical region, he choose the area of venom research and his ambition is to start a state of the art venom study centre in this part of the world. |
