The Centre for Bioinformatics, established in 2005 runs three unique programs - MPhil. Bioinformatics, MPhil. CADD and Msc. Computational Biology. In addition, we are actively into research with a PhD programme having a dozen students at the moment. Highlights of some of our recent activities are as follows:
- Funding from UGC, DST(GoI), DIT(GoI), KSCSTE and Govt. of Kerala.
- Publication of half a dozen highly accessed papers.
- Two patents already filed.
- Popular tools/software developed – C-GREX, LocoProt, MTar, MPred, RePAM, dCom.
- Visit of three Nobel laureates in 2010-2011.
- Organization of two major international events; Bioinformatica Indica 2010 and Biodesign India v1.0, 2010.
- Successful industry incubation of Sooryakiran Bioinformatics Pvt. Ltd. In 2007-2009.
- Launching of Systems and Synthetic Biology group headed by eminent scientist – Dr. Pawan K. Dhar, Senior Scientist. Formerly Head, Synthetic Biology, RIKEN, Advanced Sciences Institute, Japan. He is Editor–in–chief of Systems and synthetic Biology - Springer.
- Up-gradation to The State Inter-university Centre of Excellence in Bioinformatics (SIUCEB) in 2010.
- Imminent up-gradation to the Department of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.
