PhD Scholar, University of Amsterdam, Netherlands

Dr. Biju VC is currently a post-Doctoral Fellow in this department. He did his MSc in Genetic and Plant Breeding from the Department of Botany, University of Kerala and after he joined in this department for MPhil Bioinformatics program. After MPhil, he moved to Netherlands for his PhD in the department of Molecular Plant Pathology at the University of Amsterdam. His PhD was to understand the evolution of races within Fusarium oxysporum f.sp lycopersici, the wilt pathogen of tomato under the supervision of Prof. Ben J Cornelissen and Dr Martijn Rep, two eminent scientists in the area of plant-pathogen interaction. After the successful PhD with several international peer reviewed publications, he returned to India and joined in this department as post-doctoral fellow. His international exposure and experiences in advanced molecular biology techniques is a valuable assets to this department and many researchers are getting benefits from it. His area of expertise comprises the use of advanced molecular biology techniques to understand the molecular basis of pathogenicity of plant pathogens on its host as well as the application of new generation sequencing technologies to understand plant and pathogen genome evolution. His current research is the whole genome sequencing of medicinal plants to explore its full metabolic pathways.
