Mrs. Villarreal's 2nd Graders did not only learn about government services and the functions of a community, the state and national governments they also experienced how public officials are selected. On March 3, 2017, all students that were interested in running for class president expressed their reasons for wanting to be candidates. After reviewing their short speeches a very difficult decision was made and 3 candidates were chosen. They ran a campaign for 3 school days and with the help of their campaign managers and classmates, they were prepared for the election day. On March 9, 2017 every citizen of room 115 that had their voter registration card expressed their voice by choosing the candidate of their choice, as the song, "Our Country Today" states. The results were: Matthew Abrego our class mayor, Matthew Villasenor class governor and Itzel Luna our class president. This learning experienced is one that helped these 2nd graders learn the responsibility all citizens have on voting for our local, state and federal government.
