Solutions

ASSIGNMENT 1:

1. Watch the video above on the properties of water.

2. Create a bubble map with the Properties of Water.

3. Share with a neighbor and add anything you may have missed. Pay special attention to how water's properties are important to life.

4. You have a few things to do with water:

Using materials available at home, demonstrate at least two of the following terms. Keep track of how you demonstrated each by taking a video or photo and sending to me.

    • capillary action
    • adhesion
    • cohesion
    • universal solvent
    • surface tension

ASSIGNMENT 2:

1. Watch the videos above on solutions.

2. As you watch, create a bubble map over Solutions. Be sure to include any unfamiliar terms, such as solubility, saturation/saturated and molarity.

ASSIGNMENT 3:

1. Open the link above.

2. Read the instructions on the left side of the screen for the virtual lab.

3. Copy the data table you will need to fill out while you complete the lab (there's a link on the lab page).

4. Start by writing a hypothesis about how temperature will effect saturation of a solution.

"It is predicted that heating a solution will _________________ the solubility of the solution."

5. Use the instructions on the left side of the screen to complete your virtual lab.

6. Fill in your table with the data you collect.

7. Finally, open the journal icon on the lab screen and answer the journal questions on your own piece of paper using complete sentences.

ASSIGNMENT 4:

1. Open the virtual lab on the left above.

2. First, play around with it.

3. Write me a few sentences about what a saturated solution is in googledocs and submit. Make sure to reference the lab.

ASSIGNMENT 5:

1. Play with the lab on the right.

2. Write 10 complete sentence observations. Be sure to include the terms solute, solvent, solution and concentration in your sentences.

3. Share via googledocs.

ASSIGNMENT 6:

1. Watch the video above on how to complete molarity problems.

2. Open the document above for molarity practice.

3) Email me your work and answers. A picture will do!

ASSIGNMENT 7:

1. Watch the video above on how to complete dilutions problems.

2. Then, open the document on the right for the dilutions practice, using the video as a guide.

3. Email me your work and answers. A picture will do!

ASSIGNMENT 8:

1. Take a piece of paper and divide it in thirds.

2. At the top of each section, write: "Saturated", "Unsaturated" and "Supersaturated".

3. Watch the video on solubility curves and take notes about the different types of solutions.

4. Include a solubility curve, and color the unsaturated area green, the saturated line black and the supersaturated area purple.

5. Send me a photo of your notes.

ASSIGNMENT: SKIP!

1. Solubility lab- we are going to do a hands-on lab creating solubility curves.

2. This will be in the lab room, and I will only have materials for two days so PLEASE BE HERE!

ASSIGNMENT 9:

1. Create a concept map that summarizes the similarities and differences among various types and properties of aqueous solutions (saturated, unsaturated, supersaturated).

2. Include an explanation and examples of how and why water is unique in chemical and biological systems

You are done with the unit! See me for a solubility lab making rock candy if you're done early.
