STAAR Review

ASSIGNMENT:

1) Watch the video above to revisit prokaryotic v. eukaryotic cells.

2) See me for a copy of the Cells v. Viruses card sort.

3) Use the information from the videos and your prior knowledge to complete the sort.

4) Have me check your sort, and when it is correct you will record your information on the Venn diagram I'll give you. When this is done correctly, you'll earn your stamp for this lesson.

1) Watch the video above to review cell transport.

2) See me for a copy of cell transport manipulatives.

3) Arrange the manipulatives to assemble the cell membrane.

4) Arrange the water and glucose molecules to create a situation in which water would passively move out of the cell via osmosis. SHOW ME.

5) Next, arrange the water and glucose molecules to create a situation in which glucose would actively be transported out of the cell. SHOW ME.

6) When you've demonstrated understanding with the models, you will receive your stamp for this topic.

ASSIGNMENT:

1) Watch the videos above on viruses. As you re-watch the Amoeba Sisters video, pay attention to the section on viral replication.

2) Create a cartoon that goes over the steps of viral reproduction, including how viruses cause diseases (such as HIV). When this is done correctly, you'll earn your stamp for this lesson.

ASSIGNMENT:

1) Watch the video on DNA structure.

2) Use the model pieces to create a model of DNA.

3) Draw your model on your own paper, and label the components of the DNA molecule. Be specific, including the parts of each nucleotide.

1) Watch the video to review the process of DNA replication.

2) Then open the link on the right to replicate DNA. If you'd like a hard copy of DNA replication models, see me.

3) Write a summary about the steps of DNA replication. Where does it happen? Which enzymes are involved? What gets made?

4) When your summary looks good, you may get your stamp for this topic.

Then, in three of the boxes, out different examples of one kind of symbiotic interaction. In the fourth box, choose a different symbiotic interaction. Show me your odd man out. I should be able to guess which box is not like the others.
