You will find all the shapes you can in your area.
You will need: something to record your ideas on (paper, whiteboard or iPad).
First, decide if you are going to find 2D or 3D shapes.
For our example, we picked 3D shapes.
Next, find as many things around your home and label the shape that you see.
You can do this on paper or take photos and label on your iPad.
Challenge:
Can you find more or less shapes in another room. Why do you think there are more or less shapes there?
Using your shape knowledge you will investigate what 2D shape is being described.
You will need: at least 2 players, a bag. Options: shapes, pictures of shapes or names of shapes.
If you have no shapes, make cards with shape names or pictures of shapes on.
Remember: you only need 2D shapes.
First, place all of your objects inside a bag or something that keeps them hidden. One person will ask everyone to close their eyes. They will then pick a shape out of the bag.
We didn't have a bag so we hid the shape behind a chair.
Next, they will describe the shape and the partners with their eyes closed will have to guess what shape they are describing.
Swap partners, so everyone gets a turn to describe.
