Interpretation Services - YCS District
YCS uses Propio Language Services when in-person interpretation is not available. You can contact this service at any time (including conferences or parent/student meeting).
Translations
As per the Office of Civil Rights, and keeping in mind the needs of our district’s families, the following should be translated into the family’s home language, or an interpreter should be provided:
classroom or building updates - weekly newsletters
Invitations to special functions or activities
registration and enrollment in school and school or after-school/summer programs
requests for parent permission for student participation
curriculum updates
report cards
health concerns or notices
grievance procedures and notices of nondiscrimination
special education and related services, and meetings to discuss special education parent-teacher conferences
Language assistance program announcements or updates
1. The most direct way to translate classroom and basic district materials created in a word processing program is done through Google Docs. It is a one-step process making translation very easy:
Within a Google Doc: Tools / Translate Document / Save as a new name with that language extension / Choose the correct language
Please note that for the best translation, keep your sentences and vocabulary fairly basic and to the point. Bullet points are good to use for lists. Invitation form is excellent for trips or invitations to school events.
2. You can also upload documents to Google Translate, including pdf files. However, it does not retain formatting.
How to Translate a Document using Google Translate:
Download and save the document to be translated.
Go to translate.google.com.
Click on translate a document.
Select the Choose File button.
Locate the document to translate.
Select the desired language.
Click on the blue Translate button.
