Purpose:
To become familiar with and practice basic photo editing and other photoshop tools;
To think about your photographs in a different way;
To use conceptual skills to make purposeful artistic decisions.
I used the Rectangular Marquee Tool, Quick Selection Tool, Erase Tool, Blur Tool, Burn Tool, Dodge Tool, Eyedropper Tool, and Move Tool. I used the rectangular marquee tool when creating my mirror images. The rectangular marquee tool selects a part of the image, and when holding down the shift key, I was able to select a perfect square which I copy and pasted into a new page. The quick selection tool selects parts of the image that you click over, and this was extremely helpful for my virtual vacation, combining 2 images, desaturation, and bookface. I used the erase tool quite a lot to refine and edit my photos, and I used it in every single image that I created. The erase tool erases a part of the image that you want erased, and is my favorite tool to use. The blur tool blurs part of the image that you select, and this was a helpful tool to make seamless transitions between images that I combined, like in the virtual vacation and the bookface. The burn tool makes an area of your image darker, and this was good to edit my images to make them look realistic when combining. The dodge tool makes an area you select lighter, and I used it in a similar way that I did the burn tool, where I would use it to refine the images and make them look more realistic. The eyedropper tool allowed me to select a color in an image and then I was able to draw with it when I went to the draw tool, and I used this a lot in my bookface pictures. Finally, the move tool was just really important to move the photo around, adjust the size, etc. The move tool is pretty self explanatory, but very important.
I think the emphasis with color and bookface pictures were my most successful images. The emphasis with color images just had really great colors that I chose to emphasize, and I feel like the edges are seamless and it looks very good and well-planned. My bookface pictures took me the longest to edit, and I didn’t just edit my face with the book but also the background, and in the photo with the book The Lovely War, I had to paste a picture of the book that wasn’t in the original picture. This caused me to have two sets of hands, in which I had to erase the hands in the back and redraw my clothes. This took a long time to do and I’m proud of the result.
