I am most proud of my final still life drawing. I put a lot of effort and work into it, and made sure that every part of the drawing was even and as good as possible. I really like that I used scribbles for my type of line because I feel like when done correctly, scribbles can look really sophisticated. I originally didn’t think that the still life I did was the one I was going to do, and didn’t like it that much at first. I was torn between using scribbles and cross hatching, and made a split decision at the end of a class and I’m glad I made it. I started out with just a light rough outline of all the objects in front of me. The light source came from the top left, and my angle was right facing. I surprised myself in this class, and really surprised myself with this drawing. I didn’t know I was capable of something like that, and I’m glad that I spent time on it because if I hadn’t worked as hard as I did it would not look that good. My success with this project really gave me confidence to produce better, more detailed work in the future, such as the watershed tile as our final project this semester. I think the drawing unit and understanding of perspective was the thing that most impacted my art skills. Creating a clear perspective really affects how your art looks, and I feel like I struggled with the composition before I learned how to set up a perspective. It changed the way that I looked and thought about art because instead of looking just at the full picture, instead I’ve started to look at the individual parts of it and where they are on the page, which helps create a realistic piece of art. Next semester I’m taking Photo 1, and I’m really glad I chose this class to do after Art Fundamentals. I really enjoyed the photography unit during Art Fundamentals, and I’m excited to try it out and hopefully continue with it. I think that having a knowledge of photography will help me in the future because understanding the composition of a good picture will help with everything, like designing a house, or other types of art.
The things that inspire me to make art are my interest in making art, and all the different ways you can view it. Everyone can look at one art piece and think something different, and I think that’s special. This semester I hope to get better at looking at things differently and outside the box. I also want to learn more about ceramics and clay! I also hope that we work with photography/cameras because I am really interested in photography, and I am actually taking Photo 1 next semester.
