Purpose:
To think about and understand your personal identity better.
To communicate your identity to others using objects.
To create a well-balanced composition, keep lighting, staging, and balance in mind.
I chose my computer, camera, book, camera, and clip because I use them almost everyday. The jade elephant represents my favorite stone and elephants are my favorite animal, and the necklace and journal are from my trip to Arizona where I wrote in everyday and wore the necklace everyday. All of these objects represent me!
Purpose:
To explore identity in relation to family.
To demonstrate a narrative/story using a Triptych format.
I really tried to be creative and think outside of the box for this assignment, and when thinking of what is important to my family, I think of the outdoors and how much time we spent outside. I thought it was really interesting to see what we all do with our windows in our room, and how the decorations around it as well as the opened shades really represented us as a family. My brother's is the far left, my parents' is in the middle, and mine is on the far right.
My family spends a lot of time in the kitchen and so do friends when they come over to the house, so the kitchen is a really foundational area in my house that has had a lot of memories made. This represents community because for me community is where your loved ones can gather and be together, and that is what my kitchen is to me.
Purpose:
To explore identity in relation to community.
To demonstrate an understanding of how to communicate connection through photography.
To me, identity consists of a lot of different things. Everyone has different aspects to their personality and life, but I think the main three aspects of identity are family, personality, and community, which goes along with the assignments we had under this unit. I feel like it did change a big during this unit, but only because I was thinking of identity differently when photographing then I do normally. My personal favorite example of identity that I created was the family aspect. I think that I came up with a good, inventive concept that I hadn't ever seen before. Using windows to show the different facets of my families was a great idea, and I think I executed it well. Windows represent my family's' love for the outdoors, but I think it also shows all of our individual personalities, due to the way we have it decorated, what we see when we look out our window, and how we have our blinds. The most challenging was probably the Self assignemnt, just due to the fact that sometimes it is hard to show yourself with specific objects. I associate people in my live with memroies, objects, and places, so the other ones were easier, but trying to show myself in objects was definitely a challenge. I tried to approach this project in a unique way, and didn't just pick the obvious option, and I feel like that really shows through with my family assignment. If I did the challenge again, I would probably choose to do some different objects for self or maybe a different composition. I think that overall I did a good job, and it would probably just be really minor things.
