Andy Warhol and Pop Art

Pop Art is based on modern popular culture and the mass media. Andy Warhol's art, especially this piece, is considered Pop Art because he uses popular subjects in his art. In this piece, he had his subject be Marilyn Monroe who is one of the most famous American women ever, if not the most famous. He also uses bright colors, which is very popular in Pop Art. His art is bright, and many has human subjects, except for the occasional animal or solid object, like a can of soup. I had to pick Andy Warhol as one of my pop artists, but I really do think his art is cool and he is a pioneer of pop art. His Marilyn Monroe piece is incredibly famous and made pop art really popular. He has a big influence on art today and I really like that.

Notably, Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe and Four Jackies by Warhol, as well. His remakes are always bright and contain subjects that are popular. Pettibone's work consists of remakes, as I said before, and he adds his own twist onto each art piece which I think is cool. His art has the same basis for what they all look like, but depending on the pop art piece, it can be very different from his other works. I chose Richard Pettibone because I thought it was interesting that he remade pop art pieces into miniature versions, as well as adding his own twist onto them.

Kass has a variety of pieces, including subjects of people, remakes of Andy Warhol's art, political pop art, and historical pop art. She has a wide range of subjects, which makes her art very interesting to research. She also does neon art installations, which I think is interesting. Overall, her art is very bright and she really tries to communicate her opinions and a message behind every piece of art. I chose Deborah Kass because of the purpose of her art, as well as her talent and how her art looks.
