Purpose:
To understand and demonstrate ghosting images and long exposures.

I learned a lot during this assignment. Mostly how much timing and lighting can affect long exposure photography. I also watched many videos before doing this assignment and that gave me a lot of insight on what to do and different ideas on how to capture interesting photos. I also learned that you have to be very still when other things in the photo are moving around or else your body will come out blurry, even breathing can move your body enough to affect the photo poorly. Small details and being still are the most important when doing long-exposure photography as well as experimenting with different settings. We used a long exposure and a high f-stop to get the photos above.
What do you need to know, specifically, about long exposures?
Long exposures require a stable tripod to avoid camera shake and create a clear photo. Since the shutter speed is changed significantly you will also need to adjust other settings like F stop to capture the right lighting. You are mainly looking to capture motion so photographing something that is still would be pointless when using long exposure.
What camera settings do you need to set to capture ghosting and long exposures?
You will need low-light conditions for long-exposure photography. You will also need a slow shutter speed to capture the photo in a longer time frame. You'll also need to lower the ISO. A timer for when the photograph goes off is probably a good idea as well as a sturdy tripod.
What visual effect is achieved?
You can capture motion blur which can be used to capture a sense of movement and kind of make the moving object flow with the photo. You can also capture light trails like moving sources of light, such as cars on a road at night, the long exposure can result in light trails that show the path of the moving objects over time. Another thing you can capture is smooth water, this is kind of like blurred motion but with water and it makes the water look all blended together.
What did you learn about ghosting and long exposures?
Overall, long-exposure photography offers a versatile tool for photographers to capture unique and captivating images by manipulating light and time to convey a sense of motion, energy, and atmosphere in their compositions.
