To create four equally formed tiles
To demonstrate the effects of layering glaze colors
To develop glazing skills
To contribute to a test tile wall for current and future ceramics students
The artist paid attention and displayed an understanding of the parameters, clear display of attention to detail (little to no white spots, cracks, imperfections in the piece). I paid attention to how the glaze was put on in order, no cracks, I do have minor imperfections; messy edges, tiles aren’t all EXACTLY the same shape/size but they are all very close to each other.
The color differences surprised me greatly because when I applied the Moss Green it was a purple shade and it did not look like it would turn into a green color. The way the Moss Green interacted with the Tawny base coat was very interesting, when applying it the Moss Green it seemed like it might overpower the Tawny but now I can see that it blended in an interesting way making a speckled curious combination of colors.
I learned how different glazes interact with each other before and after firing, I also learned the steps to take to achieve a higher level of craftsmanship, and I will take away new knowledge about how to work with clay and glazes in different ways.
