Purpose:
To explore a variety of mark-making with the brush tool, along with a variety of techniques to create a digital landscape painting;
To practice using the tablet and stylus with Adobe Photoshop;
To create works of art that use different subjects, themes, symbols, and images;
Demonstrate increasing level of competence in use in the elements of art and principle of design to create a digital landscape (line, color, shape, form, texture; unity, variety, contrast, movement, emphasis, and balance).
I first went through a series of images to reference until I landed on the one I wanted I then sketched it out roughly in my sketchbook making some small changes to it in order to make it how I wanted it to look. After sketching it out I dropped my rough sketch into photoshop and started tracing the outlines of the shapes like the mountain, trees, and the road. I then proceeded to block out the colors of the shapes to create a general distinction between them. After that, I then worked on detailing the sky and created a gradient of blue to show texture and realism in the sky. Then, I started adding details and shading to the mountain to show snowy and rocky texture. Then came the trees which were the hardest part for me and took me quite a while to get the lighting and texture right using a specific brush but I soon got it looking good. I then went to detailing the road adding the lines on the side and middle then creating a gradient of grey to add detail for lighting. Finally, I touched it up with some bushes and shrubbery brushes around the edges of the road to complete the look and then drew in the car
driving down the road.
I learned how to use different types of brushes in order to create realistic textures and add detail and depth to my creation as well as using different colors for shading of trees and different shapes to really create a detailed realistic painting.
