Stoneware, 5.75” x 2.75” x 2.75”
Purpose: Use a 3” x 3” post-it as a template to create a multiple-sided, lidded box out of slabs. Tie together the different sides and lid of the box with connected shapes/concepts.
Reflection:
I wanted to depict some of the things that are most important to me, that being the ocean and the mountains. To showcase this I made a surf scene on one side of my box and a wave on the other to depict my love for the ocean and waves. On the other two sides, I made a mountainous scene and a stencil of a skier because I love spending time in the mountains and skiing in the winter. The lid connects to both of these elements because the sandy ground color is reminiscent of a sandy beach. The cactus depicts my love for the southwest, specifically Arizona because of its balance of mountains and desert. I also had the beach wrap around two sides of the box to connect the surf scene and the wave.
At first, I was unsure if I was going to like the outcome of my box but now that I can see the final product I am happy with it. I enjoy the variety of colors and the little cactus on top. The only part I’m disappointed about is the lid not fitting right and the bottom is a little wonky which causes it to wobble. If I were to redo this project I would put more care into the shape of the box.
