Essential Question: What are the necessary skills to create a convincing still-life drawing?
Purpose:
To create a still-life drawing that demonstrates understanding of angles & ellipses in perspective, along with using a chosen and conscious mark-making technique to describe form;
To understand value by creating a good range of values between black & white to help make the objects appear 3D;
To demonstrate quality craftsmanship and good composition skills in a drawing.
Artists Studied: Henry Moore, Giorgio Morandi, Vincent van Gogh, Winslow Homer, John Whalley
Reflection:
I used Van Gogh’s technique and it really helped me in making my shapes 3 dimensional. Using Van Gogh's technique and style also was helpful in value changes.
I learned to not start dark and really draw lightly at first in order to make adjustments later on and to make the drawing more realistic to the actual object.
The skills required in order to create a convincing still-life drawing are being able to use shading techniques and different marking techniques in order to create the 3-dimensional look. Another skill is being able to construct a good proportionate drawing of the objects that you are drawing; as well as being able to develop the correct perspective for the drawing.
