ATHLETIC ATTIRE AND TENNIS SHOES ARE TO BE WORN IN ALL PE COURSES DAILY
As a physical education department, we strive each day to help our students work towards their S.M.A.R.T. goals and find success in our classes. This is the first experience of high school PE and we expect each student to work hard each day while enhancing their health and fitness. We will build the students' knowledge of health and fitness as well as continue to teach each student new ways to challenge their skills. Activities may include but are not limited to, disc golf, tennis, speedball, basketball, weight training, and swimming. Successful completion of this course is required for all elective courses.
This course builds on the concepts learned in PE 9. Continued emphasis will be on the Five Components of Fitness, learning what it means to live a healthy lifestyle, and having fun. Activities may include but are not limited to, soccer, softball, golf, team handball, volleyball, badminton, and floor hockey. Students will also spend class time learning CPR and AED skills in case they are ever in an emergency situation and will be prepared on how to respond.

This class encourages students to understand the link between physical activity and body movement in an athletic and non-athletic setting. This class will hopefully convince even the least athletic student that physical activity has immediate benefits of lowering levels of body fat while increasing lean body mass, increasing self-esteem, and reducing stress as well as being fun and inexpensive. This course utilizes our existing weight room, track, Flex space, and gyms. Students will be building their own weight training program by the end of the semester.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Physical Education 9 and Strength & Conditioning I.
Strength & Conditioning II will promote and enhance an individual’s well-being and fitness. This class is designed to continue the progression of strengthening the heart, possibly positively altering an individual’s body composition, developing and strengthening skeletal muscles, and increasing flexibility. Workouts will be with a wide variety of equipment such as medicine balls, stability balls, wobble boards, heart rate monitors, weights, and more. This class will focus on the latest fitness trends seen in health clubs today and continue to allow students the opportunity to enhance their personal weight-training program. Strength & Conditioning II will allow students the opportunity to work on plyometrics, agility, and speed drills during class and be able to get most of their lifting workouts completed within the class period as well.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Strength & Conditioning I and II.
This course will be an advanced course that will focus on human performance and build on the foundational concepts learned in Strength & Conditioning I & II. It will be a course that is focused on the student who is more likely to use these concepts and skills in athletics and/or the student who is interested in using this knowledge post-high school. There will be an increased emphasis on developing personal programs and understanding how to manipulate their program to help students meet their goals and needs. An understanding of basic anatomy and physiology will allow the students to kinesthetically learn how to accomplish their personal goals.
