Art 2D is an introductory course based on the two-dimensional aspects of the elements and principles of design. The course may be taken independently of or as a continuation of Art 3D. The course will include projects and art history pertaining to a variety of areas such as drawing, painting, printmaking, and cut paper design. Because Art 2D and Drawing & Painting are usually offered in the same semester, students should not sign up for both courses in the same year.

Art 3D is an introductory course that stresses the elements and principles of design as they apply to three-dimensional art. The course may be taken independently of, or as a continuation of Art 2D. The course will cover projects and art history pertaining to such areas as ceramics and sculpture using a variety of media such as wood, wire, paper and cloth. Because Art 3D and Ceramics and Sculpture are usually offered in the same semester, students should not sign up for both courses in the same year.
Prerequisite: Art 2D, "C" or better in Art Offered First Semester ONLY
Drawing and Painting will build on skills learned in Art 2D. A variety of subject matter and media will be investigated including drawing with pencil, ink, pastels and marker. Paintings will be done using watercolor and acrylics. Non-traditional drawing and painting techniques may also be tried. Students will be encouraged to develop an appreciation of art history as it applies to these areas. Because Drawing & Painting and Advanced Drawing are usually offered in the same semester, students should not sign up for both courses in the same year.

Students taking Related Arts and Design will explore a variety of techniques such as calligraphy, stained glass, glass etching and silk painting. The art history and cultural influences of these crafts will also be discussed.
Prerequisite: Art 3-D, "C" or better in Art Offered Second Semester ONLY
This course is designed for students who enjoy working in the three-dimensional area. The study of ceramics will stress hand-building and wheel-throwing methods. Decorative ceramic techniques using various glazes will be learned. Sculpture techniques including modeling, subtractive and construction methods will be explored. Various media may be used such as plaster, wood, wire and found objects. The course will also deal with the historical and cultural background of these areas.
Prerequisite: Art 3D, and Ceramics and Sculpture, “C” or better in Art Second Semester ONLY
This course will focus on wheel thrown and hand built vessels, both utilitarian and non-utilitarian. Different techniques for hand building, wheel throwing, glazing, and surface textures will be demonstrated.
Prerequisite: Art 1 2D, Drawing and Painting, "C" or better in Art Offered First Semester ONLY
Students will continue to develop drawing and painting skills using traditional and non-traditional methods. Students will be encouraged to experiment and develop individual styles in drawing and painting a variety of subject matter.
Prerequisite: Completion of five or more previous art courses including Advanced Ceramics or Advanced Drawing and Painting with a "B" average and consent of instructor.
Senior Studio is an advanced independent study course students will design and contract with the instructor. It will include studio and research projects in the student’s chosen area. This course would not have to be conducted during a specific period. Students could be scheduled during various periods throughout the day. Students should not sign up for this course in conjunction with other art courses during the same semester.
