Agriculture Survey is a course that broadens the scope of Agriculture to students. Units covered are natural resources, pest management, FFA, plant science, crop production, ornamental use of plants, animal science, food science, and communication and management in agriculture. This class is a great way to pursue future interests in the FFA and to develop leadership skills.
This course is designed for the student who has interest in dairy, beef, hogs and sheep. The basic needs for students who want to farm or be employed in agri-business related fields will benefit from this class, and it will also aid them during post-secondary education.
This course is designed for the student who has an interest in horses and small animals. Units deal with horses, rabbits, dogs, cats, laboratory animals, and fur animals. Anyone going into veterinarian technology or medicine, or anyone who has a love for pets, will benefit from this course. Also, job opportunities in related fields will be studied.
Animal Technology I is NOT a prerequisite for this course.
This course is designed for the student who has an interest in conservation and preservation of wildlife and the role it plays in the environment. Units covered include mammals of Wisconsin, including big and small game, fish, upland game birds, birds of prey, song birds, and ducks and geese. Anyone who likes to hunt, fish, has a love for the outdoors, or who is planning on majoring in natural resources would benefit from this class.
Horticulture is the study of plants and flowers. Plant science, propagation, greenhouse management, crops, plants used in landscaping, and floral design are the units covered. Growing different plants throughout the year in the greenhouse is a hands-on experience. About half of the time students are working in the greenhouse or on activities that relate to the greenhouse. Students having an interest in flowers, horticulture, landscaping, and anyone who wants to study horticulture or landscaping in a Technical or four-year college will benefit from this class.
DUAL CREDIT*
Agri-Business Management is designed for students that want to go into any agriculture related business including production agriculture. Units covered include: sales, purchasing, marketing, service, computer record keeping, and types of businesses/business management. Students will also learn negotiation skills which can be used throughout their lifetime. Students will be involved with a commodity trading simulation.
This “hands on” course prepares students to use principles of design to modify scenery by the arrangement of plants, objects, and earth. It includes the culture and maintenance of plants in the landscape and the use of business management procedures to operate landscape design, installation, and maintenance businesses.
DUAL CREDIT*
Students taking this course should have an interest in maintaining the quality of our environment including land, forests, streams, lakes, air etc. Land and other natural resources need to be managed in a sustainable manner. Balance and agreement need to occur among farmers, processors, manufacturers, scientists and other users of natural resources. Students, as citizens, must learn to make informed choices about their environment based on facts. This class helps students develop the knowledge and confidence to positively influence our environment. Students explore forestry, land, and water quality issues in this class.
