Essential Historical Theme: Government - How is authority obtained and laws developed and how does that affect the way people live together?
The unique city-states that began in Greece around 700 BCE, were united by a common language and religious beliefs, however they were unique due to geographic isolation. As a result, each independent city-state decided which form of government worked best for them. These experiments with different forms of government form the basis for the way people chose to be organized today.
