Geography: Why do people move and live where they do?
Historians believe that the earliest human societies were small groups, called bands, of approximately 30 people who lived off the plants and animals in a given region. Men hunted and fished and women gathered foods, such as berries and nuts from the wild growing plants. Do you see how they got the name hunter/gatherers?

Many historians believe that Hunter Gatherers lived good lives. If they had sufficient food, perhaps they would even be able to spend time to relaxing. Yet, there were problems with the life style. As groups consumed all the food in an area, it would become harder to feed the clan, and they would have to move. Gradually, man discovered that edible plants would grow in a specific area, and the world would change in ways unknown due to this discovery.
