Around 221 BCE, Qin leader Shi Huangdi concquered rival states and began to exile nomadic invaders. He would become known as China's first emperor. He ruled in the Legalist Philosophy and he wanted all traces of Confucianism eliminated. Along with a strong central government, Shi Huangdi began construction of the Great Wall. It was his hope to keep invaders out with the wall.
