Dear Students and Parents,
Ah yes… it’s that time of year when students take a look at their schedule and say:
“Do I really need math this early in the morning?”
“Is it too late to switch into pottery?”
“Can I just vibe in the library all day?”
As your friendly neighborhood school counselors, we're here to lovingly say:
Let’s look at it. 😄
🗓 Schedule Change Requests
If a student is hoping to change their schedule, here’s what you need to know:
📝 How to Request a Change:
Fill out the Schedule Change Request Form: https://forms.gle/yHhohfb7mMACzENF8
Be specific! Let us know what you’re hoping to change and why.
Requests must be submitted by August 22nd at 2:30pm.
📌 Important Notes:
Changes are not guaranteed (we work magic, but we do have limits).
We consider academic needs, graduation requirements, and class availability.
Keep checking PowerSchool for your updated schedule.
⏳ Timeline:
We’ll review requests as quickly as possible and follow up with each student directly through email if there is a problem. Patience = appreciated.
Let’s make this the best year yet—no matter what time math class happens. 😉
Thanks!

The graduation list will be updated and posted weekly on Tuesdays. There is a new one posted now. Please make sure to take a look outside the counseling office and if your name is NOT on there, then you need come see either Becky or Wes and we can tell you why.
Things that need to be complete in order to graduate:
All Fine/fees paid
Lunch fines paid
Pass Civics Test
Have no more that .75 credits of attendance loss
Be academically on track (meaning no makeup credits to complete, have all work study hours turned in, have any online/packets completed, etc)
Make sure to find your testing room number - there are several posters around the school with testing room assignments listed. If you have questions, please talk to our ACT coordinator, Mr. Caldwell, in room 16.
Representatives from universities, colleges, technical and vocational schools in the State
of Utah will be at our school. We will meet in the Auditorium at 8:00 a.m. for a general
session, followed by three thirty-five minute individual college sessions.
This is a very important day for students. Within the next year you will need to decide
whether or not to continue your education and which Higher Educational Institution will
best fill your needs. This will give you an opportunity to ask questions and receive
information vital to making wise decisions. Scholarship and admission information and
deadlines, along with up-dated information on financial aid and grants will be discussed.
We are partnering again with StriveScan. The process to get students registered takes
about 5 minutes, and helps ensure the program is contactless and paperless for the
students and colleges. Students can preregister at any time in advance of the event,
including during the opening session. Register here: https://app.strivescan.com/registration
At the general session you will receive a Fact’s At A Glance information sheet, a
publication from the Board of Regents clarifying admission requirements at our colleges
and universities. As you prepare for college admissions, this information may
be helpful.
Look forward to having you join us next week!!
We will be in your English classes starting February 3rd to have you pick classes for your senior year. We will not be making individual appointments for registration, as we will be helping students individually in their English classes. Parents are welcome to come during their student’s English class if they have any questions, or you can email us as well! If you do not have English in person, please stop in and see one of us during February if you need help with registration for senior year.
You can access the course guide for class descriptions here: https://sites.google.com/wsd.net/whs-course-guide/home?authuser=0.
We will also be holding a Junior Class Fair on January 28th during Flex in the large gym. This is an opportunity for juniors to learn more about the various classes they can take senior year.
Course selection for senior year will be open on your STUDENT PowerSchool account February 3rd - February 28th. If you do not submit a course request by February 28th, a schedule will be chosen for you.
If you would like to see your graduation requirements, you will need to access your PowerSchool account through the website (NOT the app) - Click on "historical grades" and "view graduation plan progress". Dark green indicates completed, light green indicates currently enrolled and white indicates you still need that credit. Make sure you pay attention to your elective credits as well at the very bottom.
Have a spectacular day!

We have updated information for the Class of 2022 about requirements for the new state-wide, achievement-based Opportunity Scholarship. At the direction of the Commissioner of Higher Education, high school juniors (the graduating class of 2022) can qualify for the new Opportunity Scholarship through one of two ways:
the Advanced Course Track:
Complete 3 advanced courses [Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or Concurrent Enrollment (CE)] in each of the core areas of high school graduation: math, science, and language arts
Or by meeting the qualifying criteria for the now-discontinued Regents’ Scholarship (Regents’ Track)
Complete 4 acceptable credits of English, 4 acceptable credits of math (including 1 advanced course), 3 acceptable credits of social science, 3 acceptable credits of lab-based science (specifically 1 each of biology, chemistry, and physics), and 2 credits of the same World Language
To qualify, all students must also graduate from a Utah high school with a 3.3 cumulative high school GPA, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and meet all application deadlines.
Because of the compelling benefit to students in their postsecondary experience, we continue to encourage students to complete the Advanced Course Track. However, this adjustment allows high school juniors who were on track for the previous Regents’ Scholarship to qualify for an Opportunity Scholarship, if the criteria is met during this limited transition period.
The requirements of the Advanced Course Track (see above) and the Regents’ Track are wholly exclusive from each other—applicants cannot earn the Opportunity Scholarship by combining individual courses or requirements from each track. Course requirements and the acceptable courses vary, so students need to carefully review the materials on OpportunityScholarship.org for details on each specific track.
This dual track exception is only available to the class of 2022. Students graduating in 2023 and beyond must meet the Advanced Course requirements outlined in the Opportunity Scholarship to be eligible.
Our website, OpportunityScholarship.org, has been updated to reflect this information, and we will continue to provide updates regarding the application process on that website. Students graduating with the class of 2022 should still plan to apply in fall 2021.
