We have an exciting change in the WHS Counseling Department for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year!  The counseling department will transition to the Student Success Center. Students will now be assigned to 2 counselors by graduation year for their entire high school experience.  This will allow counselors to spend more time with students and place a higher focus on individualized college and career readiness.  We understand that this will be an adjustment, and ask that you work with your assigned counselors.  Change is good!

Below are the members of the counseling team and their student assignments.

Sophomores and Juniors!

It is time to select your classes for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year!  Course selection is now available on your STUDENT portal that can be accessed here:

We ask that you watch this explanation video prior to completing your course selection so that you fully understand the process.  Also, please pay attention to the symbols next to the courses (prerequisites, CE, fees, etc).  Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgF33LNKk3k&feature=emb_title

If you have not met with your counselor for your CCR meeting, we ask that you wait to select classes until AFTER you receive graduation information from your counselor to ensure you select the needed classes for graduation.  Counselors will be emailing graduation information by Feb 4th if you haven’t already received it.  Course availability is not done on a first come basis, so waiting to receive information from  your counselor will not affect your ability to sign up for a specific class.

The online course selection will be open until February 11th.  If you do not submit a course request by February 11th, a schedule will be chosen for you based on your CCR meeting with your counselor.

Thanks!

WHS Counseling

P.S. 9th grade students will be selecting their classes after they attend the Weber Experience (Jan 26th/27th).  More information will be coming soon.

Opportunity Scholarship (formally Regents) Update for Juniors

We have updated information for the Class of 2022 about requirements for the new state-wide, achievement-based Opportunity Scholarship. At the direction of the Commissioner of Higher Education, high school juniors (the graduating class of 2022) can qualify for the new Opportunity Scholarship through one of two ways:

To qualify, all students must also graduate from a Utah high school with a 3.3 cumulative high school GPA, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and meet all application deadlines.

Because of the compelling benefit to students in their postsecondary experience, we continue to encourage students to complete the Advanced Course Track. However, this adjustment allows high school juniors who were on track for the previous Regents’ Scholarship to qualify for an Opportunity Scholarship, if the criteria is met during this limited transition period.

The requirements of the Advanced Course Track (see above) and the Regents’ Track are wholly exclusive from each otherapplicants cannot earn the Opportunity Scholarship by combining individual courses or requirements from each track. Course requirements and the acceptable courses vary, so students need to carefully review the materials on OpportunityScholarship.org for details on each specific track.

This dual track exception is only available to the class of 2022. Students graduating in 2023 and beyond must meet the Advanced Course requirements outlined in the Opportunity Scholarship to be eligible.

Our website, OpportunityScholarship.org, has been updated to reflect this information, and we will continue to provide updates regarding the application process on that website. Students graduating with the class of 2022 should still plan to apply in fall 2021.

If you have any questions, you can contact the State Scholarship office at scholarships@ushe.edu or 801-646-4812.
