Be realistic - Research colleges that are likely to accept you.
Admissions Index – Know your admissions index score before you apply. Admission indexes are found on college websites and are college specific.
Apply – Apply online. Most college applications will automatically make you eligible for academic scholarships. BEWARE: Some colleges may have a separate application for scholarships. Read directions carefully!!! If you have questions, your counselor would be happy to help you through the application process.
Be aware of deadlines – Take note of colleges’ priority and final deadlines for application. The earlier you apply, the more likely your chances are of being awarded a scholarship. Always apply BEFORE the priority deadline!!!
Test Scores – Most colleges need a copy of your ACT or SAT test scores. You can request your scores be sent to up to 6 different colleges at the time of testing. DO NOT ASSUME YOUR MOST RECENT TEST SCORE IS ON YOUR TRANSCRIPT.
Send official transcript – You can order official transcripts two ways: access transcript request form online HERE or you can pick up a transcript request form in the counseling office. Each transcript is $1.00 and must be paid at the time of the request.
Letter of Recommendation – Give the person you select to write your letter plenty of time to prepare (at least 2 weeks), and provide them with a copy of your resume’.
Universities adjust requirements frequently. WHS Counselors suggest verifying credit acceptance and placement directly with the university you are planning to attend.
Each university has a “Transfer Guide” or “Articulation Agreement” available on their websites. Below are links to those documents.
BYU does not publish their transfer guide. You will need to set up an appointment with an admissions advisor.
Concurrent credit: You will need to order an official transcript at EACH university you earned concurrent enrollment credit in and have it sent to the university you plan to attend.
AP Credit: Most universities require credit to be sent directly from AP Collegeboard. You will need to pay a fee to have the AP credit placed on your official college transcript. Talk with your academic advisor at your university to get more information regarding this.
