Description: Auditioned Only Choir! Small Choir 28-32 singers, men and women. This is a full year class. Anyone can come and audition! You should be able to read music and have decent sight-reading skills. This is a choir that performs in Chamber Choir and Solo & Ensemble Festival. Extra time outside of school is required, especially around Christmas time. A good work ethic is required. Description: For students with a background in violin, viola, cello, or bass. Classical, popular, and other modern literature comprise the instructional materials. Emphasis placed on developing personal music skills, and teambuilding skills via rehearsal and other activities. Students are given the opportunity to compete in music competitions and festivals, and may try out for Orchestra Presidency Positions. Occasional morning or after-school rehearsals will occur.

Description: Chamber Orchestra is an auditioned ensemble offered to students with advanced string experience. Its purpose is to study and perform literature of varying styles. Performance activities, special events, rehearsals, festivals and concerts are an essential part of the course and will be considered in the grading process. Students are given the opportunity to compete in music competitions and festivals, and may try out for Orchestra Presidency Positions. Occasional morning or after-school rehearsals will occur.

Description: An intermediate band program for the student who has a need for additional skills. Will emphasize improving skills such as scales, sight-reading, tone production, etc. Members are expected to participate in evening concert performances, pep band and other school music activities. Enrolled students must own or rent a traditional band instrument. Performs 4 times each year.

Description: Designed for a select group of instrumental musicians interested in preparing and performing intricate stage and jazz music. Improvisation and music theory are integral parts of this course. Students should expect to perform in concerts and other school music activities. Instrumentation includes trumpets, trombones, saxophones, percussion, jazz guitar, bass and keyboard.
Comments: Membership is by audition only. Students registering for this class must be concurrently enrolled in either Concert or Symphony Band unless approved by the director.

Description: This is the most visual and seen of the instrumental music classes. Performs at football games, parades, competitions and community events. No experience necessary. This class starts in May/June. Valuable experience toward the marching band and music scholarships available at the college level. Rehearsals are scheduled before & after school and some Saturday’s.

Description: Students will develop their instrumental performance abilities with hands on learning improving their knowledge of music reading, performance, and music theory. Students will expand their knowledge of the role of the mariachi instruments through history. This course will evolve into beginning and advanced Mariachi ensemble technique. Students will be required to perform in small groups in the classroom and at events outside of school such as concerts and other events.

Description: For students interested in learning the basics of guitar performance. Students will learn to read traditional music notation, be introduced to tablature notation, learn basic chords, and perform for peers in class and in other performance opportunities. Description: Advanced theatre class which is designed for those students who love the dramatic arts and are serious about improving their skills. In this course you will participate in advanced acting, script analysis, preparation and audition techniques, advanced scene work, advanced make-up, directing, and more. In conjunction, students will have the opportunity to direct their own plays and perform in productions. All those considering a career in theatre or hoping to receive a theatre scholarship should take this class. Extra rehearsals are required.

Description: Students will be introduced to all the elements of technical theatre. We will study the scenic design, costume design, lighting design, and sound design. We will also learn basic scenic construction skills, scenic painting skills, prop making skills. Additionally, students will learn how to run all the stage equipment in Roy’s auditorium including the lighting control console, sound mixing console, how to hang and focus lighting instruments, how to hang scenery from a counterweight (fly system), and more. If students are interested in working backstage for any of Roy’s productions and assemblies, this class must be completed first.
