Last Call: Publication Support Available
In October, the NRMN CC offered support to U01 PI’s to cover the cost of one manuscript per team, with the possibility of covering additional manuscripts depending on the number of requests and associated publication costs. Our hope is that this will allow teams to redirect NCE funds toward travel costs for one of your team members to attend a conference.
To request support for publication costs, please email the NRMN Coordination Center (CoordinationCenter@NRMNet.net) with the relevant details (team name, proposed title, proposed journal, estimated cost) upon submission of your manuscript. Please note that publication costs will need to be paid before May 1, 2025 so consider that in your timelines. Also note that our NRMN CC award (U24GM132176) must be cited in the acknowledgments section of the publications.
RPPR Reminders:
The Final RPPR, Final FFR, and Final Invention Statement are due 120 days after project end date (e.g., October 28, 2025, if the grant end date is June 30, 2024, with a 1-year NCE).
Final RPPR:
Resembles the Annual RPPR.
Requires a report on Project Outcomes (section I) which will be made publicly available
Sections F: Changes and Section H: Budget are not part of the Interim/Final RPPR.
We've received clarification that while some sections of the FRPPR are cumulative, others are not. Please refer to the links below for details. Emily, Lisette, and Taylor will be attending the Research Manager Meeting in April to provide a section-by-section breakdown.

Update on the NRMN Bibliometric Analysis: At the November 2021 webinar, NRMN CC team members/consultants presented outcomes and opportunities of the NRMN bibliometric analysis. Partners on this effort include Melissa McDaniels, Christine Sorkness, Chaoqun Ni, Trisha Adamus, Lisette Serrano. Currently, work is being done to add the identified set of initial publications from U01 PIs and CoPIs to include all team members contributing to the projects. Work is also being done to re-run and expand the initial analyses. Folks from the group mentioned above will also be drafting and submitting a manuscript to JCTS. The next step in this process is to design bibliometric analyses as to identify collective impact of publications by U01 research teams, as a result of their interventions and observations.

Launched in the fall of 2018, each issue features a collection of book reviews, literature reviews, and peer-reviewed research papers and articles. The journal addresses mentoring and coaching topics in educational and workplace settings within a wide variety of disciplines, including: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics), Arts, Humanities, Business, Health Sciences, Education, and others. Papers and articles included in this publication are peer-reviewed by faculty members of Higher Education Institutions and practitioners with ample experience in the field.
How can I access the Special Issue Chronicle publications?
Currently, the journal is only available to the 4K+ members of the Mentoring Institute; however, authors are allowed to post their articles anywhere they wish. The entire 2024 Special Issue, Volume 1 of The Chronicle of Mentoring & Coaching will also be available in PubMed and authors.
To access all the journal articles from 2008-2022, there is a need to pay a membership; however, this particular Special Issue will be posted on PubMed and authors will receive a copy of their own article(s) on their account. The Institute is working on indexing the journal to a large database with an estimated release date of December 2024.
What is PubMed?
PubMed is a free resource developed by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that supports the search and retrieval of biomedical and life sciences literature with the aim of improving health–both globally and personally. The PubMed database contains more than 36 million citations and abstracts of biomedical literature. It does not include full text journal articles; however, links to the full text are often present when available from other sources, such as the publisher's website or PubMed Central (PMC). In this case, full text of each special issue article will be linked from pubmed.
What is the maximum number of authors?
The maximum number of authors is 6, and a 250-word biography is needed for each author. Biographies do not count towards the two page limit.
Who will be reviewing the proposals?
The peer-review process will include other members of the NRMN and will be supervised by guest editors. More on this soon.
Does the special issue require original work (i.e. could it be a summary of a U01 publication)?
Original work is required.
The NRMN CC was awarded an Administrative Supplement: The NRMN CC submitted an Administrative Supplement to NIGMS to secure additional funding to increase our capacity for data coordination in the final stages of NRMN Phase II. These funds will also support the creation of dissemination products such as the NRMN CC Lessons Learned manual which we’ve discussed at previous meetings. We are also pursuing a special issue with the Journal of Clinical and Translational Science (fingers crossed) and are open to other dissemination ideas from the community.

NIH Supplement Announcement: The Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) NOT-OD-22-057: Administrative Supplements to Recognize Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Mentorship has generated much interest and many inquiries. Proposals are due April 7, 2022. The NIH Office of Scientific Workforce Diversity (SWD) has created a website about this opportunity with a Q&A section. Here’s an example Q&A:
Q: For applications that support a trainee, how does this application differ from a Diversity Supplement?
A: This award differs from a Diversity Supplement because it provides flexibility as to how funds are used. Funds can be provided to perform additional research within scope of the parent award, to add trainee slots, to foster trainee career development, and/or to develop mentoring activities.
Chantele Mitchell-Miland of Team Rubio was awarded a Diversity Supplement under the Building Up program. Congratulations Chantele!

We have finalized the spring 2021 NRMN internal webinar series which will include U01 presentations.
Last spring we invited 3 U01 teams to present during each webinar. We received feedback that this felt a little rushed.
To honor the request that each team have more time to share their work and get feedback from the community, this spring we are inviting 2 U01 teams to present their work during each webinar.
To accommodate this, we will have 2 webinars per month (1st and 3rd Wednesdays) in March, April, and May and 0 webinars in June. This break in June will also allow teams to prepare for the DPC virtual annual meeting on June 28-30, 2021.
We will email the community soon with details about signing up for a spring presentation date.
Welcome Katrina Ramirez (Team Byars-Winston)!

Updates on the 3 community topics that Doris Rubio facilitated during the August 5th webinar:
Topic #1: How are U01s handling authorship with site leaders?
The NRMN CC will curate example authorship criteria for the community to consider.
Topic #2: Should NRMN develop a title for study participants to include on their CV?
The NRMN CC will find out more information about this by talking with NIGMS and other groups who have successfully done this for study participants.
Topic #3: Interested in joining a working group to address promotion and tenure recommendations that are not biased against BIPOC?
This is an open invitation to anyone in the NRMN community; if interested, please complete this google form by August 26th
The NRMN CC will coordinate meetings
The working group will decide their scope and goals
As a starting point, the working group may want to identify work that has already been done by BIPOC individuals
