The NRMN community should use the DPC logo and the NRMN logo on their materials. If groups prefer to use one logo, the NRMN logo is suggested. Please do not use the NIGMS or NIH logos on materials as these are reserved for internal NIH items.
Study Participant Titles: The NRMN community should refrain from using titles such as scholars, trainees, fellows, etc. These terms have specific meanings linked to NIH funding. Instead, NIGMS recommends the use of "participant in X study".

DO
Clarify NRMN's race-neutral participant selection criteria prominently within program eligibility statements.
When program subject matter explores topics that relate to specific under-represented groups, be clear in distinguishing this from the program's eligibility requirements, taking care to avoid suggestive language that could produce the perception that eligibility to participate is only open to members of those under- represented groups explored in the subject matter.
Encourage participation of members of specific under-represented groups only after NRMN's inclusive eligibility standards have been clearly communicated.
Ensure all staff responsible for delivering communications via any relevant medium/channel are sufficiently trained and prepared to adhere to these policies.
DON'T
Describe programs as being "for" specific groups.
Use language that is unclear in the distinction between program eligibility and subject matter, or otherwise lends itself to being interpreted as excluding the participation of individuals who are not members of (a) certain under-represented group(s).
"Encourage" participation of members of specific under-represented groups before NRMN's inclusive eligibility standards have been clearly communicated.
Entrust staff who are not prepared to adhere to these policies with the responsibility of delivering communications via any relevant medium/channel.
SAMPLE LANGUAGE TO USE
Note: Applications are welcome from individuals from all backgrounds; you need not belong to a particular population in order to participate in any of the [NRMN Program Name] sessions.
