Course Overview

The Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Performing Arts is for learners who want to acquire technical knowledge and technical skills through vocational contexts by studying acting, as part of their Key Stage 4 learning. The qualification recognises the value of learning skills, knowledge and vocational attributes to complement GCSEs. The qualification will broaden the learners experience and understanding of the varied progression options available to them.

Component 1: Exploring the Performing Arts

Learners will develop their understanding of the performing arts by examining practitioners’ work and the processes used to create performance.

Learning aims

A Investigate how professional performance or production work is created

B Demonstrate understanding of the skills, techniques and approaches used by professionals to create performance/production work.

Component 2: Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts

Learners will develop their performing arts skills and techniques through the reproduction of acting, dance and/or musical theatre repertoire as performers or designers.

A Use rehearsal or production/design processes

B Apply skills and techniques in performance or realisation

C Review own development and application of performance or design skills.

Component 3: Responding to a brief

Learners will be given the opportunity to work as part of a group to contribute to a workshop performance as either a performer or designer in response to a given brief and stimulus.

AO1 Understand how to respond to a brief

AO2 Select and develop skills and techniques in response to a brief

AO3 Apply skills and techniques in a workshop performance in response to a brief

AO4 Evaluate the development process and outcome in response to a brief

Career & Further Study Information

Progression after completion of the course could involve students going on to study either A Levels or BTEC Level 3, or further training in the Performing Arts Industry.
