Assessment Overview


GCSE Spanish has a Foundation Tier (grades 1–5) and a Higher Tier (grades 4–9).  Students must take all four question papers at the same tier.  

Paper 1 - Listening        Paper 2 - Speaking        Paper 3 - Reading        Paper 4 - Writing

Paper 1 - Listening

What's assessed 

Understanding and responding to different types of spoken language.

How it's assessed

(Each exam includes 5 minutes’ reading time of the question paper before the listening stimulus is played)

Communicating and interacting effectively in speech for a variety of purposes

Career & Further Study Information


Taking a language at GCSE students will have skills and a valuable talent that is applicable to almost every career. A language GCSE builds on what the students already learnt in Years 7, 8 and 9 but with more emphasis on listening and speaking skills. Additionally students will learn about other people, countries and cultures so it really is an interesting and varied subject.
