Each year, Wilmette Public Schools conduct vision and hearing screenings in the state-mandated grade levels K, 1, 2 and 3, as well as new students to the District, students with IEPs and special education students. The screenings at Central are planned on Feb. 24-26.
This is a mass screening to detect academically significant vision and hearing problems. There are certain visual or eye problems which will not be detected in a screening program; therefore, it should NOT be considered a substitute for a professional eye examination. Students with corrective lenses will not be screened but should have their glasses with them for visual inspection. If your child is under the regular care of an eye doctor, please submit a current eye examination form if you have not done so already.
Referral letters are sent to the parents of students who fail the vision or hearing screening twice.
If you would like your child to opt-out of vision and/or hearing screening, please request the opt-out in writing to zitoa@wilmette39.org at least one week prior to the screening.
