COVID 19 Travel Guidelines

The CDC and Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) recommend avoiding all non-essential travel.

CCPDH has revised its travel guidance to align with the city of Chicago. Here are D39’s travel policies, which are in accordance with the CCDPH/Chicago guidance.

      • Obtain a negative COVID-19 PCR test result prior to or after arriving in Cook County (tests cannot be taken more than 72 hours prior to your return).

        • If you are in an orange state for fewer than 72 hours, you must take a test within 72 hours of returning to Cook County.

        • The test cannot be taken in Cook County prior to your travel.

        • If you arrive in Cook County and are still waiting for the test result, you must quarantine until you receive it.

        • Please note: You do not need to provide evidence of a negative PCR test result to D39, but please keep those results available in case they are requested.

    • Option B

      • Quarantine for a 10-day period once you return to Cook County. Your return day is considered "Day Zero."

    • Option C (not applicable for students)

      • Be fully vaccinated, maintain strict masking and physical distancing, and not have any COVID-19 symptoms. Fully vaccinated is defined as two weeks after the second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or two weeks after one dose of a single-dose vaccine.

    • Note: If anyone traveling has tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 90 days, they are exempt from the domestic travel order. For prior COVID-19 infection – you must have completed your 10-day isolation (from start of symptoms and/or positive test), have a documented positive test, and remain asymptomatic during your travel.

international travel guidance

The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will require ALL air passengers over 2 years old entering the United States (including U.S. citizens and Legal Permanent Residents) to present a negative COVID-19 test, taken within three calendar days of departure or proof of recovery from the virus within the last 90 days.

IN ADDITION, quarantine IS required after international travel with the following guidelines:

  • Get tested 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for 7 days after travel. Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days. If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected.

  • If you don’t get tested, it’s safest to stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.

  • Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days, whether you get tested or not.
