COVID 19

If your child has symptoms of covid 19

They should be evaluated by their pediatrician for next steps. Your child and all siblings must stay home from school until cleared by the school nurse to return. A negative PCR test or doctor's note is required for the student(s) to return to school. If a PCR test is not performed and the doctor is writing a note it must state that they have no suspicion of COVID-19 and must give an alternate diagnosis for the symptoms. If not getting a PCR test or doctor's note, all students must stay home for 10 days (date of symptom onset = day 0)

When your child's symptoms begin, you should isolate them from anyone else in the household in case they do test positive. Everyone in the household should wear a mask until the PCR test result is received. Isolating those with symptoms will allow for shortened quarantine for anyone else in the household (ONLY if you are able to completely isolate them and have no shared spaces in the house - bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, etc.)

  • The minimum quarantine time for students that are a close contact to someone with COVID is 10 days.

    • The last date of contact with the person is day 0.

  • The maximum amount of time is 24 days (if isolation away from the COVID positive person is not possible).

    • The COVID positive person's 10 day quarantine + the close contact's 14 day quarantine.

  • Quarantine dates are determined by the Cook County Department of Public Health.

IF anyone in the household has symptoms of COVID 19

ALL household members must stay home until a negative PCR test or doctor's note with alternate diagnosis (and stating no suspicion of COVID) is received.

Everyone in the household should wear masks until the a negative PCR result is received and the person with symptoms should isolate away from everyone else if possible and make sure you do not have any shared spaces (bathroom, kitchen, etc.). Doing this as soon as symptoms begin will help shorten the mandatory quarantine time for household members if that person were to test positive. The minimum quarantine period for a student is 10 days, but could be longer depending on each individual situation. Quarantine periods are determined by the Cook County Department of Public Health.

blacktop door 14 for pick up from quarantine space

The student and all of their siblings in the school will be sent to the quarantine space in our big gym. They will need to be picked up/signed out immediately and stay at home until the student is cleared to return with a negative PCR test or doctor's note. Students at other D39 schools will also be sent to their school's quarantine space to await pick up.

face mask reminders

  • All students must be wear a face mask at school. Face masks should be a minimum of two layers and MUST fit properly. The nose and mouth should be fully covered and should fit fairly snugly. Masks that have gaps or that need to be adjusted frequently are not appropriate and should not be used. Try different types of brands and materials with your student to see what fits best and is most comfortable for them.

    • Students should have 3 masks in their backpacks daily in case they need to be changed.

    • Worn face masks must be washed daily. Have several masks available to rotate throughout the week.

    • Teach your child to take the mask off by touching the ear loops, not from grabbing the front of the mask.

    • Students should have a plastic or paper bag to store masks in or use a lanyard to keep the mask safe when off of their face (during lunch, mask breaks, outside when socially distanced, etc.)

    • Write your child's name or initials on their mask so it does not get lost or stolen.

Daily COVID Certification sheets are required for entry into the building. Please make sure to date and sign the forms! Students without a form or signature are sent to door #14 for parents to fill out a slip on site (if a parent is with them) or parents will be called for certification over the phone.

If you see your child has left their form at home, please take a photo of it and email it to Nurse Zito as soon as you see it: zitoa@wilmette39.org or call 847-512-6102 to certify over the phone.
