Any absences (illness, vacation, family emergency, medical appointments, testing) or late arrivals MUST be reported to the attendance line at 847-512-6150. Messages can be left 24/7. It is helpful to notify the classroom teacher of the absences as well but it is the parent/guardian responsibility to notify the school of planned absences or late arrivals. Do not assume that the teacher will notify the office of your student's absence, staff members may be home sick, at an appointment or meeting, or not able to access their email. If a message is not left before 9:00 am, your student will be considered missing and an alert will be sent out. If your child is not called in after the alert is sent out, your child will be marked as an unexcused absence.
District 39 has been tracking attendance and sending monthly notices about student absences. Whenever possible, please schedule appointments before or after the school day. Students arriving late and/or leaving early can be disruptive to the entire classroom. Students chronically arriving late or leaving early are missing important instructions and class routines. Below is information about the district guidelines for determining absences.
Kindergarten:
Can miss 35 minutes before being considered absent. They must be present for 120 minutes to be considered present.
AM: if they arrive after 9:10 or leave before 10:35 they’re absent.
Due to the shortened school day this year students in 1st-4th grades can only miss 15 minutes before being marked for a 1/2 day.
If they arrive after 9:00 or leave before 2:00, they’re marked for a 1/2 day.
