Welcome back to another busy half term!
In Maths, Mr Wildman has been teaching us sequences and we have been challenged to finding the 'n'th term. In English, we have started 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens and have enjoyed looking at Dickens' start and how some can be dead 'to begin with'. We are very much looking forward to seeing the novella live on stage next week. In Latin, Mrs Henson has introduced us to the myth of Pegasus, and we worked on creating cartoon strips, retelling and presentations based on the story.
In the science-lab this week, we used ammeters to measure electrical current in a series circuit. We then compared series and parallel circuits to understand their advantages and disadvantages. Whilst in French with Madame Veloso, we have been learning how to describe our daily routines, both verbally and in writing.
Finally, in Humanities we have studied a special topic of the 1605 Gunpowder plot. We revisited our knowledge gained from last year, but then reflected more upon why we still commemorate this event every 5th November. We were surprised to learn that it was because James I made it a legal requirement! We examined some historical sources from the Edwardian period, in order to try to understand why the commemoration of this event moved on from church bells ringing in the Stewart period, to fireworks now. It was really fun and we are looking forward to our special Remembrance lesson next week before moving on to our new topic of the term, China.
