Welcome back, and I hope your half-term break was a peaceful interlude. The children have shared some marvellous tales about their holiday excursions. It seems many of you seized the opportunity to bask in the late autumn sunshine before the change of clocks. It's astonishing to realise we're just six weeks from the Christmas holidays, with time seemingly accelerating.
This Monday’s assembly marked the return of our annual visit from the Restless Development charity, sparking the children's enthusiasm for the triathlon at Royal Russell School scheduled for next May. More information will be provided in due time, presenting our pupils with yet another opportunity to engage in physical activities while backing a worthy cause. To conclude the week, Friday saw an assembly from another of our supported charities, the Dons Action Group, rounding off a week of engaging and meaningful involvement.
It was delightful to see such a large turnout for the Year 3 to Year 5 parents' evening. I trust you found the occasion beneficial. This Saturday, we look forward to welcoming approximately 100 families of prospective pupils to Willington, many visiting for the first time in their quest for the ideal school for their children. Our gratitude extends in advance to the pupils who will serve as ambassadors, ensuring a warm welcome for our guests, alongside the POW team's invaluable assistance.
We also greeted the Perform Drama group, who delivered fantastic workshops for our younger learners this week. My own modest experiences with drama at school taught me to appreciate the intricacies of acting. Similarly, while not all our students may represent their country in sports, instilling an appreciation for health and fitness remains a fundamental objective.
This week has been significant in global events, yet let's focus our thoughts on our real 'working people' – the Year 6 pupils gearing up for their 11+ exams. Their dedication throughout the year and, no doubt, the half term break, deserves our utmost support as they enter this pivotal stage. Wishing them the best of luck; we're confident they'll excel.
Have a wonderful weekend. KB
