In English, we’ve started reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and are thrilled about it! Exploring the first few chapters, we discussed all the senses used to describe Lucy’s experience when she first entered Narnia. We also linked our English lessons to drama this week, where we imagined ourselves as the four children—Lucy, Edmund, Susan, and Peter—evacuated to the countryside during wartime. In groups, we had thoughtful discussions about the feelings they might experience, which we then acted out through improvised scenes.
In maths, we continued learning about decimals, particularly how to compare and order them. Although we found it challenging at times, we’re definitely making progress! In science, we began our topic on electricity and were amazed by how many electrical appliances we use daily.
History this week introduced us to the Roman army, exploring soldiers' roles, responsibilities, and their heavy 20kg armour. We were astonished to learn they walked 30km three times a month in full gear! Our geography lessons connected with Cultural Awareness Month as we explored the UK’s regions and cities, sampling delicacies from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
In music, we worked in small groups to arrange a melody and create an ostinato performance. In art, inspired by Michael Craig-Martin, we sketched everyday objects, practising tone and shading to give a 3D effect. Our computing lessons kicked off with a new unit on digital safety, focusing on the SMART Rules and designing digital posters to promote them.
