A busy first week back, but, as always it has been so much fun!
In History this week, we have been learning about the 1605 Gunpowder plot and creating our own historical acrostic poems, wanted posters or fact files to showcase our knowledge. In Geography, we got to grips with Google Earth digital mapping and we sought to plot where the famous locations linked with the Gunpowder plots are located across England.
In Maths, we have been working with decimals, whilst in English we have enjoyed starting our new class text this week and getting to know the hero - Beowulf, and the villain - Grendel. We also used literary devices and our senses to write a spooky setting description. In Latin, we helped Miss Henson create a wonderful Latin display by thinking of all the reasons that Latin is a useful subject to learn, such as helping us with other languages and enabling us to understand the origin and meaning of a considerable amount of English vocabulary. Lots of us enjoy the mythology and history too!
Finally, in Science this week, we conducted a fair test to investigate how water resistance affects different shapes made with plasticine. Our independent variable was the shape of the object, while the dependent variable was the time it took each shape to reach the bottom of the container. We also identified the control variables—the factors we kept constant throughout the investigation. It was an exciting and successful experiment. Madam Veloso has had us practicing writing and saying our birthday and other key dates in French.
