Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
This week in Reception has been full of exciting learning and memorable experiences!
We started the week by celebrating World Wildlife Day, during which the children explored different animals and their habitats.
Pancake Day was a big hit! The children enjoyed learning about the tradition and, of course, tasting delicious pancakes.
In phonics, we introduced the new digraph ‘oa’, and the children practised spotting it in words and using it in their own writing. They also had fun making clay boats, carefully shaping and decorating them.
In literacy, we read the classic fairytale The Three Billy Goats Gruff, which the children loved, especially when acting out the story with big, medium, and little voices! We then talked about all the animals living on the farm and challenged ourselves to play the animal sound game. Singing the 'Old McDonald Had a Farm' song brought lots of smiles.
Our math lessons focused on capacity, where the children experimented with filling and emptying containers, and we also explored number pairs of 4 and 5 through practical activities.
The highlight of the week was undoubtedly World Book Day! The children looked fantastic in their costumes and loved listening to different teachers read a variety of stories. It was a magical celebration of books and storytelling!
Happy International Womens Day and have a lovely weekend!
